Three Steps to Take Today Toward a More Confident You

Confidence. It's amazing when you have it and terrifying when you don't. Some of us came out of the womb with an extra measure of confidence, while others have had to build up their cofidence reserves through blood, sweat, and tears. No matter if you were born confident, or if you walk through the world with your head down, anyone can improve their confidence by implementing a few tried and true strategies.

Embrace Positive Self Talk

It's important to recognize the impact that our thoughts have on us. Negative thinking and being overly critical of ourselves can be devastating to our overall sense of well being. Replacing negative thoughts with affirmations takes mindful effort but the pay off is huge. I've always said that if you're going to tell yourself a lie such as "I will never be successful" (which is NOT true) you might as well tell yourself a better lie like "I have what it takes to aquire the success I'm seeking". It's so simple but most of us fall victim to the voices in our heads and it keeps us from reaching our full potential.

Step Out of Your Comfort Zone

Have you ever seen the look of delight on a toddlers face when he or she takes their first steps? After countless attempts and plenty of face planting, the child beams with pride and satisfaction. We were all there at one time. We didn't give up, we pushed through our fears and we became walkers! Unfortunately, life has a way of tearing us down at times. We lose that child- like confidence and put ourselves in cages. Pushing our boundaries and challenging ourselves is the only way out of the prisons we've built around ourselves. I have started using my fear as my North Star. Whenever I feel fear building up in me, I know that is the direction I need to go.

Prioritize Self Care

There is a huge connection between self care and self confidence. When you take care of yourself, you feel better. When you feel better, you take action. When you take action, you grow. When you grow, you gain confidence! It's all connected! Creating a self care routine that includes caring for your physical needs (exercise, healthy food, and restful sleep) as well as your mental needs (practicing mindfulness, connecting with loved ones, and participating in hobbies) will pay off in big confidence dividends. You are the only one that can make sure your needs are met. When you do that consistently, you develop trust and respect for yourself. It never has to be anything drastic, small, positive changes add up.

As you can see, confidence is possible for anyone, anywhere. No matter how many times you've let yourself down, or how many mistakes you've made, you can always take steps that lead to a more confident you. I want you to be your very best self because the world needs you! We need you to take care of YOU! You matter, you have significance, and you have a place in this life! I invite you to reflect on ways that you can build your confidence.
